About Albanian American National Organization
Based in Ballston Lake, NY, the Albanian American National Organization represents a vital connection point for Albanian-Americans seeking to honor their heritage and build lasting relationships within their community. Established on December 15, 1946, when twenty-seven young men and women gathered in New York City with a shared vision, the AANO has grown into a network spanning the United States and Canada with nine active chapters.
What sets the AANO apart is its inclusive, non-sectarian approach that brings together Albanian-Americans from diverse religious and political backgrounds. The organization emphasizes the sameness of a people—the Albanian people—while celebrating the rich traditions and customs that define their shared identity. From its inception, the AANO recognized that education was the pathway to community advancement, establishing its scholarship fund in 1950 to support the next generation of Albanian-American scholars and leaders.
The AANO serves as a gathering place where families and individuals of all ages can participate in cultural events, annual conventions, and social activities that strengthen bonds across generations and continents. Whether through local chapter activities or national functions, members experience the profound value of community connection and mutual support. The organization has proven itself a wonderful means for Albanian-Americans, particularly youth and young adults, to meet, develop close friendships, and maintain their cultural identity while thriving in North America. Membership opens doors to a welcoming community committed to preserving Albanian heritage for future generations.
