About Alliance Francaise d’Austin
For more than 50 years, Alliance Française d'Austin has been a dedicated community institution promoting the French language and Francophone cultures throughout Austin, TX and the surrounding region. As part of the international Alliance Française network—a global organization with over 800 chapters serving more than 500,000 members and students worldwide—the Austin chapter brings world-class expertise combined with deep local roots. The organization's mission centers on encouraging the study and appreciation of French language and cultures while fostering meaningful exchanges between French speakers and the Austin community. Founded in 1970 and incorporated as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, Alliance Française d'Austin operates as an independent, self-financed organization governed by a volunteer Board of Directors and dedicated part-time staff. The organization has earned recognition for transparency and accountability, holding a Platinum Seal of Transparency from GuideStar. Supported in part by grants from the City of Austin's Cultural Arts Division and Economic Development Program, Alliance Française d'Austin is committed to making French language and culture accessible to all community members. The organization is proud to be part of Austin's cultural fabric, contributing to the city's diversity, prosperity, and international connectivity. Membership is open to the public, with members eligible to vote at annual meetings and shape the organization's future direction. Alliance Française d'Austin remains an important resource connecting Austin residents to the broader Francophone world.
