About Alliance Francaise d’Indianapolis
Since its establishment in 1989, Alliance Française d'Indianapolis has grown from a small French expression club into a vibrant cultural organization serving the Indianapolis, IN area and surrounding regions. Founded during a period of increased French-speaking immigration and commercial exchange between France and Indiana, the organization evolved from its original incarnation as Améri-France, Inc. into an official Alliance Française chapter in 1995. Today, Alliance Française d'Indianapolis operates as an open community association welcoming anyone with an interest in the French language and francophone cultures, regardless of background or ethnicity. The organization is deeply committed to fostering meaningful relationships between people of different nationalities, cultures, and perspectives through shared appreciation of French language and culture. As a 501(c)(3) non-profit governed by a Franco-American Board of Directors, Alliance Française d'Indianapolis embodies the global mission of the Alliance Française network—to promote cross-cultural understanding and global community awareness. The organization enriches the lives of central Indiana residents by creating spaces where francophones, francophiles, and curious learners can connect, share experiences, and deepen their appreciation for French and francophone cultures. From hosting annual community picnics and Bastille Day celebrations to organizing educational events and cultural exhibitions, Alliance Française d'Indianapolis continues to serve as the rallying point for French-speaking and French-loving members of the Indianapolis community, fostering connections that transcend language to build genuine intercultural bonds.
