About Alliance Francaise de Greater Orlando
The Alliance Française was founded in 1883 in Paris to "propagate the French language abroad", and was immediately sponsored by luminaries and statesmen. It rapidly expanded and in 1905 already numbered 600 chapters worldwide. A strong acceleration of growth took place between 1979 and 2017.
At the end of 2020, the Alliance Française was present in 131 countries, with a total of 832 chapters and close to 500,000 students. Its headquarters are located in Paris. The Alliance Française has 109 chapters in the US, including 8 chapters in Florida...
Our local chapter is the Alliance Française of Greater Orlando (AFGO.) It encompasses the 4 counties of Central Florida.
AFGO was initially created as a section of Rollins College in 1959, and became independent in 1975. It is a non-for-profit 501(C) (3) organization, managed by a President assisted by a Board of Directors.
Besides its school of French language, for children (age 4 to 17) and adults, AFGO organizes each year, about 30 indoor and outdoor events, offered to its members, students and non-members .
