Alliance Francaise de San Francisco
About Alliance Francaise de San Francisco
Since 1889, Alliance Française de San Francisco has been the cultural and linguistic heart of the French-speaking community in San Francisco, serving as the oldest Alliance Française chapter in the United States. This nonprofit organization is dedicated to promoting knowledge and appreciation of the French language and Francophone cultures, welcoming native speakers, fluent French speakers, language students, and interested non-speakers to participate in its diverse programming throughout the year. The organization has evolved to become a vibrant community hub that hosts one to two regular events weekly and larger celebrations each trimester, including Francophonie festivities, Fête de la Musique, and winter fairs. Alliance Française de San Francisco's commitment to community engagement extends through volunteer opportunities, membership programs, and partnerships with local organizations that bring monthly cultural events to San Francisco residents. The institution's recent opening of the Musée d'Histoire de la Communauté Francophone demonstrates its ongoing dedication to preserving and sharing Francophone heritage. With experienced teachers passionate about sharing their love of the French language and a welcoming environment for learners of all backgrounds and levels, Alliance Française de San Francisco continues its 135-year tradition of building bridges between San Francisco and the broader French-speaking world.
