About America-Italy Society of Philadelphia

Founded in 1956 by visionary leaders including Dr. Giovanni Luciolli, the Italian Consul General at the time, and John Price, the America-Italy Society of Philadelphia has spent nearly seven decades building bridges of understanding between two nations. This Philadelphia-based non-profit emerged from a deep commitment to promoting international friendship grounded in mutual respect for the cultural, artistic, scientific, and intellectual contributions of both the United States and Italy. The organization's mission extends beyond simple cultural appreciation—it reflects a dedication to preserving and sharing the richness of Italian artistic heritage with the Philadelphia community and beyond. Throughout its history, the Society has demonstrated its values through meaningful action, including leading restoration efforts following the 1966 Arno River flood in Italy and providing humanitarian support to communities affected by the 1980 earthquake near Naples. Today, the America-Italy Society continues this legacy of service and connection through language education, cultural programming, and community engagement. With several hundred members across the greater Philadelphia area who share a genuine passion for Italy, the organization creates spaces where people can deepen their appreciation for Italian culture, learn the language, and build lasting friendships. The America-Italy Society represents more than programming—it embodies a commitment to international understanding, cultural preservation, and the enduring bonds between American and Italian communities.
