Anakbayan New Jersey
About Anakbayan New Jersey
Rooted in Jersey City, New Jersey, Anakbayan New Jersey is a youth-led mass organization carrying forward a legacy of progressive Filipino American activism since its founding in 1998. The organization unites Filipino youth of all backgrounds—including workers, farmers, students, professionals, women, migrants, and members of national minority communities—in collective struggle for self-determination and social transformation. Anakbayan New Jersey recognizes that Filipino communities face interconnected challenges spanning both the United States and the Philippines, from forced migration and immigration enforcement to economic exploitation and political repression. By bringing together diverse young people in Jersey City and throughout New Jersey, the organization creates spaces for community members to understand these systemic issues, build solidarity with one another, and take collective action. The organization has demonstrated tangible impact through campaigns that have secured the release of detained Filipinos, built coalitions with immigrant rights networks, and organized community responses to ICE raids and detention center abuses. Anakbayan New Jersey's approach integrates the struggles of youth with the broader movements of working people and marginalized communities, believing that genuine freedom requires sustained organizing and deep community relationships. As part of a national network, the organization connects local Jersey City activism with international solidarity work, recognizing that Filipino liberation is inseparable from broader struggles against imperialism and for democracy. Through education, organizing, and mobilization, Anakbayan New Jersey empowers young Filipinos and their allies to become active agents of change in their communities.
