Asian Bar Association of Washington
About Asian Bar Association of Washington
Founded in 1987 by a dedicated group of Seattle-area attorneys, the Asian Bar Association of Washington (ABAW) has evolved from humble beginnings into a vibrant professional community representing over 500 Asian Pacific American attorneys, judges, law students, and legal professionals across the state. ABAW's mission centers on amplifying the voice of Asian Pacific American legal professionals in Washington while fostering justice, equity, and opportunity for the communities they serve.
What distinguishes ABAW is its deep commitment to both professional excellence and meaningful community impact. The organization goes beyond traditional networking by actively engaging in judicial evaluation processes, monitoring legislative developments that affect the Asian Pacific American community, and advocating for equal opportunity throughout Washington's legal system. Members benefit from mentorship programs, professional development initiatives, and access to a supportive network of peers navigating the legal profession.
ABAW's community-focused approach is evident through its operation of free legal clinics in Seattle's International District and Rainier Valley neighborhoods, directly serving vulnerable populations with critical legal assistance. The association invests in future legal professionals through law student scholarships and maintains active committees dedicated to pro bono service, mentorship, and community engagement. By combining professional advancement opportunities with grassroots community service, ABAW demonstrates that the legal profession can be both a rewarding career and a powerful force for positive social change in Washington State.
