Founded over 20 years ago as an informal gathering of healthcare professionals, the Association of American Physicians of Indian Origin Hampton Roads has grown into a vibrant, established organization dedicated to giving back to the community it serves. Officially incorporated in 2005 and granted 501(c)3 tax-exempt status in 2009, AAPI-HR has become a cornerstone of community healthcare in Portsmouth, VA. The organization's mission centers on scientific, educational, cultural, and charitable purposes that directly benefit the Hampton Roads community. Since its formalization, AAPI-HR has organized annual fundraising galas and health camps that provide free medical, dental, vision, and hearing screenings to underserved populations. Proceeds from these community events support local free clinics and scholarships for medical students at Eastern Virginia Medical School in Norfolk.
