About Association of Nigerians in New Orleans

Founded in the early 1980s by visionary Nigerian immigrants in New Orleans, the Association of Nigerians in New Orleans represents over four decades of community building and cultural stewardship. What began as a gathering of students, bachelors, and married couples seeking connection has evolved into a vital nonprofit organization that serves as the cultural and social backbone for the Nigerian community throughout New Orleans. ANNO's founders recognized that coming together as one would enable them to preserve their rich and diverse cultural heritage while protecting their children from exclusion and cultural disconnection. Today, the organization continues this legacy by fostering deep relationships among Nigerian residents and creating safe spaces where members can celebrate their identity, share experiences, and support one another through life's challenges. The organization's commitment extends beyond its immediate membership to the broader New Orleans community, working to combat prejudice and marginalization while promoting understanding and appreciation for Nigerian culture. ANNO operates as a federal tax-exempt nonprofit registered with Louisiana, ensuring accountability and transparency in its mission. Members find in ANNO not just an organization, but a family—a place where Nigerian traditions are honored, intergenerational bonds are strengthened, and the values of love, peace, and unity are lived out daily within the vibrant multicultural fabric of New Orleans.
