Well Read Sistas Inc
The Well Read Sistas Bookclub. A Book Club for Black Women. We read books written ONLY by Black women. We welcome any Black woman interested in literature and stimulating discussion. Our mission is to promote the personal and professional development of Black Women. Well Read Sistas is all about intentional self-love and building community. We get more excited about how the mission develops over time. It is a pleasure to truly get to know each one of our members. Every Well Read Sista has an amazing story, talent, and ambition. The monthly book club promotes literacy, elevates Black women authors, and serves as a consistent "home base" for Black women for over 5 years. We have also been honored to chat with many of the authors that we read for our Behind the Pages Events. This enables group members to ask the author questions about their work, their process as well as their journey. Moreover, motivated by the conversation at the monthly book club, we began hosting weekly wellness check-ins called: Sis, You Good?! Many members were isolated or had limited contact with people in the interim between book clubs. For this event, members join a virtual call to talk about our day and optionally answer an introspective question. This experience has been enriching and necessary in a time when loneliness is at an all-time high. Further, Well Read Sistas hosts Headshot Day and other community initiatives to provide affordable tools to assist Black women with professional resources like resume advice and job readiness training.
