Based in New York, NY, Athlete Ally is a nonprofit organization with a simple but powerful belief: everyone deserves equal access, opportunity, and experience in sports, regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression. The organization was founded on the recognition that sports serves as one of the world's greatest socialization mechanisms, yet an entire community of people remain systematically excluded from athletic participation and leadership. Athlete Ally's mission centers on ending discrimination in sports and activating the athletic community to exercise their leadership in championing LGBTQI+ equality. The organization believes that athletes and coaches have unique power to influence cultural values and create welcoming spaces for all. Through their Advocacy Network and campus chapter programs, Athlete Ally builds a community of committed individuals who understand that inclusion strengthens sports and society. They work directly with athletes, coaches, and sports organizations to foster environments where LGBTQIA+ individuals are not only welcome but celebrated.
