About Bayan Canada
Rooted in Toronto, ON, BAYAN Canada represents a community-driven alliance born from a commitment to justice and remembrance. Established on September 21, 2008—deliberately marking the 36th anniversary of the Philippines' martial law period—the organization embodies the collective voice of Filipino migrant workers, women, youth, indigenous communities, faith leaders, and healthcare professionals united by shared values of democracy and peace. BAYAN Canada emerged from recognition of historical injustices and continues honoring the resilience of those who have faced human rights violations. The organization serves as a gathering place where diverse Filipino communities in Canada connect with one another and stand in solidarity with struggles for justice in the Philippines. Through annual congresses and coordinated community actions, BAYAN Canada maintains living connections to the homeland while addressing the immediate needs and concerns of Filipinos across Canada. The organization emphasizes steadfastness and collective resilience in the face of political and economic challenges, calling upon all patriotic Filipino organizations to join in advancing a shared vision. BAYAN Canada's work reflects deep relationships within the community, rooted in accountability to those affected by injustice and commitment to building toward a Philippines characterized by peace grounded in genuine justice and democratic participation.
