About Bhartiya Mandal Foundation
Bhartiya Mandal Foundation (BMF) represents a living connection to San Francisco's rich Gujarati heritage, rooted in the historic India Club movement that began in 1973. For decades, the Bhartiya Mandal Indian Community Hall in San Francisco's Tenderloin has served as a sanctuary where generations of Gujaratis have gathered, celebrated, and built lifelong relationships. Many of BMF's board members themselves grew up attending cultural activities at this beloved community space, experiencing firsthand the transformative power of cultural connection and community belonging. Today, the foundation is dedicated to preserving this legacy while expanding its mission to serve the broader San Francisco Bay Area community. BMF operates on the pillars of cultural awareness and community service, recognizing both the importance of honoring Gujarati traditions and the responsibility to support one another and the larger society. The organization continues to host the cultural events that have defined the hall for generations—from traditional Raas Garbas and Diwali celebrations to Holi festivities and community gatherings. By maintaining and strengthening the vision of India Club, Bhartiya Mandal Foundation ensures that the hall remains a vibrant hub for cultural expression and community connection in San Francisco. The foundation's commitment extends beyond celebration to encompass deeper understanding of Gujarati history and culture, fostering pride in heritage while building bridges within the diverse San Francisco community.
