Black Visions
About Black Visions
Based in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Black Visions represents a transformative approach to community organizing centered on Black liberation and collective safety. Founded in 2017, this Black-led, Queer and Trans centering organization has emerged as a vital force within Minnesota's social justice landscape, building on lessons learned from the Movement for Black Lives while charting its own path forward. Black Visions' mission is rooted in a vision where all Black people possess autonomy, safety is community-led, and communities exist in right relationship within their ecosystems. The organization distinguishes itself through its commitment to healing and transformative justice principles, recognizing that sustainable change requires both strategic action and emotional and spiritual care. Working across Minneapolis and throughout Minnesota, Black Visions builds movements from the ground up, creating spaces where Black communities can organize powerfully and connect across differences. Their intentional growth process reflects a deep understanding that lasting transformation cannot be rushed, requiring investment in people, relationships, and community capacity. By centering the voices and leadership of Black Minnesotans—particularly those from Queer and Trans communities—Black Visions creates conditions for authentic, community-driven change. The organization's integrated model demonstrates how political organizing, leadership development, and community care can work together to dismantle systems of violence while building the beloved community that Black people deserve.
