About Brazos Valley Czech Heritage Society
Since 1997, the Brazos Valley Czech Heritage Society has served as a vital cultural anchor in Bryan, TX, bringing together families dedicated to honoring their Czech, Moravian, Silesian, and Slovakian heritage. What began with just 13 charter members has blossomed into a thriving community of over 100 adults and 13 youth, all united by a shared mission to preserve ancestral traditions and pass them to future generations.
Based in Bryan, BVCHS operates as a member chapter of the larger Czech Heritage Society of Texas, Inc., a volunteer-led 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded in 1982. The organization believes that cultural heritage is best celebrated through genuine human connection—bringing people together through meaningful social and educational experiences that weave genealogy, history, language, food, and music into the fabric of community life.
What makes BVCHS unique is its commitment to making heritage accessible to everyone. The society offers free genealogy assistance to help members locate and document their family histories, removes financial barriers with affordable membership dues, and creates welcoming spaces where people of all backgrounds can explore Czech culture. From intimate language classes to festive celebrations, from traditional baking workshops to scholarship programs supporting local youth, BVCHS demonstrates that cultural preservation thrives when communities prioritize authentic relationships and shared experiences. The Bryan chapter invites all who value heritage, community, and cultural celebration to join its growing family and participate in activities that honor the past while building connections for the future.
