Building our collective resilience by focusing on the health and well-being of Black gay men and our allies
Brothers of the Desert is conducting our 7th annual Wellness Summit focusing on Black gay men and our allies in the Coachella Valley and beyond in-person on Saturday, March 28, 2026, for the first time at the Renaissance Palm Springs in Palm Springs from 8:30 AM-4:30 PM.
Coming together in mutual support of our personal and community wellness can be challenged and supported by several factors. It is important for us in this moment to harness our power and share our strategies for thriving in challenging times. “Building Our Collective Resillience” is the theme of our summit. Join us as we offer the opportunity to learn from a diverse group of health and wellness experts.
The one-day event will feature inspiring keynote presentations and innovative workshops on a range of topics, such as spirituality, relationships, mental health, aging considerations, responding to racism, physical health, communication, healthy sex, and creative expression as a means of healing. Everyone is welcome to attend.
The summit begins with a meet-and-greet at 8:30 AM and the program will start promptly at 9:00 AM. Participants will be able to choose to attend concurrent workshops at three different times during the day and meet and connect with new people. Lunch will be provided. Space is limited, and registration is required.
A donation of $25 is suggested, and any amount given will be appreciated.

Brothers of the Desert is a non-profit organization providing a growing support network for Black gay men and allies in the Coachella Valley. Our mission is to nurture and support Black gay men and allies through philanthropy, volunteerism, mentorship, education, advocacy, and social networking. Our purpose is to change the dynamics that produce isolation, disconnection, and inequities among Black gay men. The seeds of our brotherhood were planted in 2017 in response to feelings of isolation and disconnection among Black gay men in the Coachella Valley –both desert pioneers and newcomers. The founding members, driven by a motivation to provide meaningful support to the Black LGBTQ community, began by assessing the needs and dreams of the long-standing Black gay residents who call the Coachella Valley home. In 2019, they partnered with a like-minded LGBTQ nonprofit called Better Brothers of LA to raise money for local scholarships, which led them to formally incorporate as a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization in 2020. Since then, the Brothers of the Desert have dedicated over $20,000 in scholarships to LGBTQ+ and Black students in the Coachella Valley. We now showcase two signature annual events in the community: a Wellness Summit emphasizing holistic health and community engagement, and a New Year’s Eve dinner fundraiser. We also connect with the community through a quarterly speaker series, a bi-monthly social event called Brothers Got Talent, and our monthly newsletter, Drumbeat. To achieve our goals, the Brothers believe in the power of partnership and building bridges with a wide coalition of allies. Recent collaborators include the Coachella Valley Repertory, Stonewall Ministries, Palm Springs Women and Jazz, and the L-Fund. We have received support from several influential businesses and organizations, including the LBGTQ Community Center of the Desert, Bouschet, Blackbook, and K-Gay Radio. Monthly membership meetings are held on the second Saturday of every month. We welcome all Black/African-American men identifying as gay, queer, bisexual, or same-gender-loving in the Coachella Valley area. We also encourage our allies in the community to become involved in supporting our well-being, regardless of their race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, or geographic location.
