About CBC Week 2026-National Black Sheriffs' Association Public Safety Mixer
Connect sheriffs, deputies, public safety partners for networking and candid discussion on today’s law enforcement challenges
The purpose of this mixer is to bring together county sheriffs, deputies, detention officers, county commissioners, district attorneys, municipal law enforcement officers, FOP leaders, and other public-safety professionals for an evening of networking and candid discussion about the latest challenges affecting law enforcement and local communities.
Guests will also have an opportunity to tour the Black Sheriffs’ Memorial, a unique historical and educational experience dedicated to preserving the contributions of Black sheriffs past and present. Major features include the bronze bust of Sheriff Lucius D. Amerson, historical monuments honoring pioneering Black sheriffs, interactive QR-code exhibits, the Sisters with Badges display recognizing African American women serving as sheriffs, and exhibits highlighting the connection between the Office of Sheriff, civil rights, public service, and American history.

The Lucius D. Amerson, Bridge Builder Foundation, a 501(c)(3) organization, is committed to preserving the legacy of Sheriff Lucius D. Amerson, the First Black Sheriff elected in the South after Reconstruction. The foundation has two primary objectives: archiving the history of Black Elected Sheriffs and provide scholarships to high school graduates from marginalized communities. These scholarships aim to empower underserved youth to pursue careers in trades, focusing on practical skills in fields such as electrical repair, plumbing, carpentry, and heating and air conditioning services. As the Chairman of the Foundation, my role is multifaceted. I lead fundraising initiatives, oversee marketing and sales strategies, and play a pivotal role in the conceptualization, development, and execution of educational programs. Additionally, I manage financial resources with prudence, optimizing budgetary allocations for maximum impact. I actively cultivate partnerships with stakeholders and community members to amplify the Foundation's reach.
