About Children of Lesbians and Gays Everywhere
For more than thirty years, COLAGE has stood as the only national organization expressly dedicated to the empowerment and support of people with LGBTQ+ parents and caregivers. Headquartered in Providence, Rhode Island, COLAGE began in 1990 as a grassroots initiative called "Just For Us," when six young people with lesbian and gay parents came together for a revolutionary first meeting. What started as a small gathering has evolved into a thriving national community that celebrates the experiences and perspectives of queerspawn—a term of self-identification lovingly adopted by members of this vibrant community. In 1996, COLAGE expanded its mission to explicitly include children of bisexual and transgender parents, deepening its commitment to representing all families with LGBTQ+ caregivers. Today, COLAGE serves as a hub where people with one or more LGBTQ+ parent or caregiver connect with peers, nurture one another, and collectively build their identities as confident leaders. The organization's Queerspawn Agenda represents a powerful shift in how conversations about LGBTQ+ families are conducted—centering the voices and experiences of those who live these realities every day. As COLAGE enters its next chapter, the organization remains committed to building community, fostering activism, and ensuring that people with queer parents have a space where they truly belong and are celebrated for who they are.
