About Community Care Bruins
Community Care Bruins represents a student-led movement at UCLA dedicated to transforming the lives of adoptees and foster children across Southern California through the power of mentorship and community connection. Founded over two decades ago, this organization has evolved from a small initiative into a thriving network that brings together UCLA student mentors, local youth, and their families in a shared commitment to building lasting, meaningful relationships.
At its heart, Community Care Bruins seeks to foster a tight-knit community where young people feel genuinely supported and celebrated for who they are. The organization recognizes that adoptees and foster children benefit tremendously from peer connections with others who understand their unique experiences, and it intentionally creates spaces where these relationships can flourish. Through mentorship, social activities, and quarterly campus events, Community Care Bruins builds bridges between UCLA's student body and vulnerable youth in Los Angeles and surrounding communities.
The organization's holistic approach extends beyond mentorship to encompass fundraising and outreach initiatives that address real community needs. By partnering with organizations like OneSky, Community Care Bruins demonstrates its commitment to comprehensive support for children in the foster care system. With approximately 25 volunteer mentors and 14 active mentees, the program maintains an intimate, relationship-focused scale that prioritizes quality connections over quantity. Community Care Bruins continues to welcome new mentors and participants, inviting the UCLA and greater Los Angeles community to join in their mission of creating supportive, inclusive spaces where every young person feels valued and connected.
