About Consulate General of Mexico in San Francisco

The Consulate General in San Francisco began operations in the year 1848.

The Consulate General of Mexico in San Francisco has under its constituency the counties of Alameda, Contra Costa, Del Norte Humboldt, Lake, Marin, Mendocino, Napa, San Francisco, San Mateo, Solano, Sonoma and Trinity of the State of California and the entire of the State of Hawaii. The Career Consulates of Portland, Oregon and Seattle, Washington are also under its jurisdiction.

In this regard, it is worth mentioning that in 1951 Portland was a satellite office of this consulate, which in 1996 became a career consulate. As for Seattle, its opening was decreed in 1959, and as for Anchorage, the career consulate began operations in 2008.

Since July 1978 there has been an honorary consul in the state of Hawaii.

Until 2007, this consulate general had a representative from the Banjército office and one from the commercial office of the state of Baja California Norte, both under the “Single Roof” policy.

In 1984, the Consulate General had a staff of 15 members, including SEM officials and Independent Professional Service Providers. In recent years it has been gradually increasing, due to the increase in consular services and the number of nationals living in the constituency.


The mission of the Consulate General of Mexico in San Francisco is to represent Mexico before the authorities of the counties of Alameda, Contra Costa, Del Norte Humboldt, Lake, Marin, Mendocino, Napa, San Francisco, San Mateo, Solano, Sonoma and Trinity of the State of California and the entire State of Hawaii, in accordance with the foreign policy objectives set by the Government of Mexico. Provide consular services; meet the needs of the Mexican community, protect and defend its rights and guarantees, as well as promote the interests of Mexico in its constituency.

Our vision is to be an active and effective consular representation in the fulfillment of the objectives of Mexico's foreign policy and consular work, in order to cover in a coordinated and efficient manner the needs and demands of the Mexican community residing in the constituency.
