About Cream City Medical Society

Cream City Medical Society (CCMS) draws its name from the distinctive cream-colored bricks that define Milwaukee's architectural heritage, symbolizing the strength, beauty, and resilience that the organization embodies. Established in 1927 under the pioneering leadership of Dr. Richard Herron—whose father, Dr. Allen L. Herron, was Milwaukee's first African American physician—CCMS holds the distinction of being the first and only Milwaukee-based organization of African American physicians. This historic legacy reflects a deep commitment to breaking barriers and creating pathways for underrepresented communities in healthcare. The organization's mission centers on eliminating minority health disparities while cultivating a positive image of African American professionals in the medical field. CCMS is dedicated to nurturing the next generation of healthcare leaders by supporting minority youth pursuing careers in medicine, pharmacy, dentistry, podiatry, and related healthcare professions. As a charter chapter of the National Medical Association, the organization connects Milwaukee healthcare professionals to a national network of peers and resources. Members include accomplished doctoral-level practitioners whose combined expertise spans multiple healthcare disciplines. Through its work in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, CCMS bridges historical gaps in healthcare representation while building a stronger, more inclusive medical community for future generations.
