About Dallas Women Lawyers Association

Founded in 1968 by pioneering female attorneys including Louise Raggio, Judge Sarah T. Hughes, and Joann Peters, the Dallas Women Lawyers Association has grown from informal gatherings into a formally incorporated non-profit organization dedicated to advancing women in the legal profession. What began as a group of determined women preparing programs for the 1969 ABA Convention in Dallas evolved into a lasting community of support and professional empowerment. By 1980, DWLA had established itself as a fixture in the Dallas legal community, hosting regular monthly luncheons at the historic Belo Mansion. In 1984, the organization formally incorporated as a non-profit, solidifying its mission to unite women attorneys for mutual benefit and elevate the standing of women in the profession. Serving Dallas, TX, DWLA represents over five decades of commitment to fostering meaningful relationships among legal professionals and championing women's advancement in law. The association celebrates its rich history while continuing to evolve, as evidenced by its 50th Anniversary celebration at the Old Red Courthouse and Museum in 2019. Today, DWLA remains a vital community for legal professionals seeking connection, support, and shared purpose. Membership welcomes women and men in law, government employees, and the judiciary, reflecting the organization's inclusive approach to professional community building. Through programs, social activities, and committee involvement, DWLA honors its legacy while empowering the next generation of legal professionals in Dallas.
