The Filipino American Association of Pittsburgh (FAAP) represents nearly 70 years of community building and cultural preservation in West Mifflin, PA and throughout the Pittsburgh region. What began as an informal social gathering in 1957 has evolved into a dynamic, volunteer-driven nonprofit organization that embodies the Filipino spirit of bayanihan—unity and compassionate action.
Founded on the vision of early community leaders like Simplicio Jan Maramba, FAAP was formally organized in 1964 and officially incorporated as a nonprofit in 2000. Today, the organization serves as a bridge connecting Filipino Americans to their heritage while fostering meaningful relationships within the broader Pittsburgh community. The association's mission centers on three interconnected values: preserving Filipino cultural traditions, promoting awareness of Filipino heritage among members and the general public, and perpetuating these values through successive generations.
What distinguishes FAAP is its commitment to holistic community engagement. Beyond cultural celebrations and educational scholarships, the organization actively addresses community needs through charitable work, disaster relief efforts, and neighborhood partnerships.
