About Filipino American Lawyers Association of New York
Founded in January 2013 by nine dedicated Filipino American attorneys, the Filipino American Lawyers Association of New York has grown into a vibrant community organization with approximately 200 supporters united by a shared commitment to professional excellence and community empowerment. Based in New York, NY, FALA New York was officially incorporated as a not-for-profit corporation in September 2015 and operates as a 501(c)(6) organization dedicated to promoting the professional development, interests, and success of Filipino American legal professionals in the Metro New York area. Beyond traditional networking, FALA New York actively strengthens connections between Filipino American legal professionals and the broader Filipino community through collaborative initiatives and cultural celebrations. The organization has hosted transformative events including the 2023 Pinay Powerhouse, a national conference that brought together Filipina attorneys and aspiring lawyers with keynote speaker Loida Lewis and NAPABA President Anna Mercado Clark, and NFALA-ganza, a celebration of LGBTQIA legal professionals at the historic Stonewall Inn. FALA New York partners with community organizations such as the Filipino American Legal Defense and Education Fund on Know Your Rights programs addressing immigration, labor, and civil rights issues. The organization remains committed to fostering leadership development through scholarships, mentorship programs, and semiannual general body meetings that engage members in shaping the organization's future. Through thirteen years of dedicated service, FALA New York continues finding innovative ways to contribute to and strengthen the Filipino American legal community in New York while celebrating the achievements and potential of its members.
