Gabriela New York
About Gabriela New York
Founded as Filipinas for Rights and Empowerment (FiRE) and now operating as GABRIELA New York, this grassroots women's organization has been serving the New York, NY community and beyond for over a decade. GABRIELA New York represents a unique intersection of diaspora activism and local community organizing, building bridges between Filipino women in the United States and the broader women's movement in the Philippines.
The organization's strength lies in its diverse membership base—women of Philippine descent who are immigrants, migrants, US-born, of mixed heritage, and adoptees—united by a commitment to collective liberation and social justice. GABRIELA New York is proudly LGBTQIGNC-inclusive, recognizing and affirming transgender people and gender non-conforming individuals of Philippine descent as vital members of their community.
As part of the larger GABRIELA-USA network and BAYAN-USA alliance, GABRIELA New York operates within a framework of solidarity, connecting local struggles to international movements for women's rights and economic justice. The organization's work encompasses advocacy around reproductive rights, protection from violence, workers' rights, and immigrant dignity. Through campaigns, community education, and collective action, GABRIELA New York continues to build power among Filipino women and allies committed to transforming systems of oppression.
