About Gate City Bar Association
Founded in 1948 by ten African-American lawyers in Atlanta, Georgia, the Gate City Bar Association stands as the oldest African-American Bar Association in the State of Georgia. Born out of necessity when African-American attorneys were excluded from segregated bar associations throughout the state, the organization has evolved into a beacon of legal excellence and social justice. The association's mission centers on creating community appreciation for the legal profession, encouraging talented individuals to attend outstanding law schools and return to serve communities that need their expertise most. Gate City Bar Association remains steadfastly committed to opposing arbitrary and capricious laws while upholding and extending the principles of justice throughout American life, ensuring that no individual faces discrimination based on color, race, religious beliefs, or national origin. Today, members serve at the highest levels of Georgia's judiciary, in major law firms, corporate counsel offices, government positions, and political arenas throughout Atlanta. The organization celebrates 75 years of service by empowering legal professionals and the communities they serve through volunteerism, mentorship, and educational initiatives.
