Since its founding in 1893, the Georgia State Medical Association has served as the conscience of medicine in Atlanta, GA and throughout the state, dedicated to ending health disparities and improving healthcare quality for minority and underserved populations. GSMA stands as a leading force for parity and justice in medicine, representing the collective interests of more than 3,000 African American physicians and the patients they serve across six affiliated societies. The organization's mission centers on community health equity, with steadfast commitment to eliminating health disparities and promoting healthy lifestyles among African Americans and other vulnerable populations. Through collaborative partnerships with numerous organizations, GSMA addresses critical public health issues impacting patient outcomes and community wellness. The Georgia State Medical Association Foundation, established in 1996, extends this mission by working to mitigate the underrepresentation of Black men in medicine through education and diversity initiatives. GSMA members actively serve on medical school faculties throughout Georgia, contributing to the development of future healthcare leaders committed to equity.
