About GWU Asian American Student Association
Based in Washington, DC, the GWU Asian American Student Association is a student-led organization dedicated to affirming and celebrating Asian American and Pacific Islander identities within the George Washington University community. Founded on the principle that AAPI voices and experiences deserve authentic representation and space on campus, the association addresses the systemic misunderstanding and misrepresentation of Asian American identities in higher education and society at large.
At its heart, the association is about belonging. It creates an intentional, welcoming environment where AAPI students can authentically engage with their identities alongside peers who share similar experiences and backgrounds. Through social gatherings, cultural celebrations, and educational programming, members find community, build lasting friendships, and develop a stronger sense of self within their university experience.
Beyond social connection, the organization empowers its members with practical support and knowledge. The association maintains curated resources to help AAPI students discover internship and scholarship opportunities, navigate career pathways, and build professional networks. Members also benefit from connections to other student organizations and campus initiatives, creating a robust support system.
The GWU Asian American Student Association represents a commitment to visibility, representation, and community care. By bringing together students who understand the unique challenges and strengths of Asian American identity, the organization transforms individual experiences into collective power, fostering a more inclusive and equitable campus culture throughout Washington, DC.
