Hellenic American National Council
About Hellenic American National Council
Rooted in a vision of unity forged through decades of dedicated effort, the Hellenic American National Council represents the collective voice of the Greek American and Greek Canadian communities. What began in 1987 as an ambitious initiative culminated in the historic Declaration of United signed in Boston on January 11, 1992, bringing together 23 federations in a commitment to solidarity and shared purpose. Operating from its principal office in Washington, DC, HANC has grown into a network encompassing federations and associations across multiple U.S. states and Canada, with connections to Greece and representation in the international arena. The organization is built on democratic principles, with all officers elected through fair and transparent processes, ensuring that every constituent federation and association has a voice in HANC's governance and direction. At its core, HANC is driven by core values including honoring democratic Hellenic and American ideals, protecting and preserving Hellenic culture and language for future generations, and advancing human rights and historical truth on the global stage. The organization's work touches every aspect of community life—from grassroots voter registration and civic engagement to advocacy on issues affecting Greece, Cyprus, and the broader Eastern Mediterranean region. Whether through educational programs, community rallies, or diplomatic efforts, HANC in Washington, DC serves as a bridge connecting Greek Americans to their heritage while strengthening their role in American civic life. Since 1992, HANC has remained committed to its founding principle: in unity, the Hellenic American community stands strong.
