About Hispanic Services Council
Founded in 1992 by social service professionals in Tampa, Florida, Hispanic Services Council represents a deep commitment to improving the lives of Latino children and families in Hillsborough County. What began as an informal network offering bilingual translation and information services through the Linea Hispana (Spanish Hotline) has evolved into a comprehensive organization addressing systemic barriers that impact Latino communities. HSC's mission is straightforward yet powerful: to increase access and opportunities for Latinos and influence the systems that serve them.
At its core, HSC operates from a place of shared experience and genuine community connection. The organization's staff and leadership bring immigrant, cultural, and language experiences that allow them to connect authentically with the families they serve and earn their trust. This foundation of understanding drives everything HSC does—from amplifying the voices of those who feel unheard to transforming lives through information, education, resources, and advocacy.
In 2011, HSC reframed its work to focus on four critical areas: Education, Health, Economic Mobility, and Civic Engagement. This strategic shift reflects the organization's commitment to changing the policy, environmental, and systemic conditions impacting Latinos. HSC serves as a vital connector between Latino families seeking stability and the providers, government agencies, and educational institutions that can support them. By valuing the dignity of every human being and respecting cultural beliefs and traditions, HSC helps families overcome isolation, navigate complex systems, and access the opportunities needed to achieve their fullest potential in Tampa and throughout the region.
