House of Turkey
About House of Turkey
Founded in 2004 by the Turkish-American community of San Diego, CA, House of Turkey emerged from a grassroots initiative to preserve and celebrate Turkish cultural identity for future generations. What began as a volunteer-driven task force has evolved into a well-established non-profit organization that has become integral to San Diego's multicultural landscape. The organization was born from the community's desire to ensure accurate cultural representation and prevent younger generations from losing connection to their Turkish heritage while fully participating in American life. House of Turkey joined the House of Pacific Relations, a consortium representing 33 countries in Balboa Park, positioning itself within an internationally recognized multicultural environment that mirrors the United Nations. Over the past decade, the organization has grown through the dedication of volunteers and board members who have contributed thousands of hours to bring Turkish culture to San Diego residents. The organization's vision extends beyond annual events to establishing a permanent Turkish cottage in Balboa Park—a physical home that would serve as both a cultural center and welcoming gateway for all San Diego visitors to experience Turkish traditions. House of Turkey's commitment reflects the broader mission of fostering mutual understanding and cross-cultural friendship within the San Diego community. The organization's work demonstrates the power of community-driven cultural initiatives, where volunteers have transformed a simple vision into a thriving non-profit that enriches San Diego's diverse cultural identity. By sharing Turkish arts, crafts, culinary traditions, and the warmth of Turkish hospitality, House of Turkey continues building bridges between cultures and strengthening the bonds that unite San Diego's multicultural community.
