The As One Foundation, established in 2007 as a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization, empowers the global sickle cell population one sickle cell family at a time. The As One Foundation is a global leader in hemoglobinopathy education, providing in-person & digital educational opportunities geared towards raising awareness of sickle cell trait & disease, empowering patients to be proactive advocates for their health, & attracting sickle cell allies beyond the affected blood disorder population. We serve 4 distinct populations with our programming: 1. Patients; 2. Caregivers/Families; 3. Community members & 4. Health care providers. We serve by the philosophy that sickle cell is experienced by not just the patient, so our service delivery aims to be relevant to everyone, while also empowering those that live with sickle cell trait & disease to thrive, while challenging the broader community to learn about this genetic condition that affects 100,000 Americans living with sickle cell disease and 4 million Americans with sickle cell trait. All As One Foundation events and activities acknowledge sickle cell trait and sickle cell disease as factors existing not independent of each other but because of each other. Sickle disease births are prospectively the result of procreation between two sickle cell trait positive parents and any combination of at least one sickle cell disease parent will certainly result in a sickle cell trait birth at best. In order to increase quality health care and directly address disparities associated with chronic and acute blood conditions, we seek to fill knowledge gaps of patients, caregivers, family and community members and even health care providers. Educational offerings are provided through in-person and digital delivery methods to empower those of living with, affected by or are caregivers of people of varying sickle cell genotypes.
