Indonesian American Association
About Indonesian American Association
Since 1952, the Indonesian American Association has been a cornerstone of community support for Indonesian Americans in Washington, DC and the surrounding metropolitan area. Originally established as an association of Indonesian Embassy employees under the name IKI (Ikatan Keluarga Indonesia), the organization evolved organically as the community expanded, providing essential assistance with family settlement, job placement, and social integration. After becoming independent from the Embassy, IKI formally transitioned to the Indonesian American Association and registered as a non-profit charitable organization in the District of Columbia in 2014. Today, IAA embodies a vision of building a strong, unified Indonesian American community in the DMV area that stands alongside other vibrant Asian-American communities. The organization's mission reflects its roots in community care: empowering members through meaningful programs and activities that strengthen bonds among families, develop individual skills, and build collective economic power. Led by dedicated leadership including President Butet Luhcandradini and a committed board of trustees, IAA continues the legacy of service that began seven decades ago, serving as a trusted partner for Indonesian families and individuals navigating life in the Washington, DC area.
