About International Association of Korean Lawyers
Founded in 1987 in Seoul, Korea, the International Association of Korean Lawyers (IAKL) has grown into a worldwide network serving the Los Angeles, CA area and legal professionals across the globe. What began as a gathering of lawyers from Korea and Korean-descended attorneys at a World Peace Through Law Association conference has evolved into an organization dedicated to building professional relationships and promoting social justice among legal professionals of Korean heritage and those with interests in Korea. IAKL's mission centers on bringing together diverse legal professionals—from first-generation Korean immigrants to third-generation Korean-Americans and attorneys worldwide—to celebrate their shared heritage while advancing the practice of law. The organization is guided by five core principles: honoring Korean heritage and enriching legal practice; celebrating individual and collective achievements of Korean-heritage attorneys; embracing diversity within the legal profession; supporting public service and international initiatives; and actively promoting social justice and tolerance. Since hosting its inaugural conference in New York City in 1988, IAKL has convened annual gatherings that unite attorneys from varied backgrounds and professional contexts. These conferences blend substantive legal discourse with cultural celebration, creating spaces where professionals can engage in meaningful conversations about legal systems and public service while building lasting friendships. Based in Los Angeles, CA, IAKL represents a commitment to community, professional excellence, and social responsibility. The organization's foundation extends this mission through charitable work, ensuring that the opportunities available to Korean-heritage attorneys benefit broader communities and advance justice globally.
