Founded in 1969 by a group of Muslim students and young professionals from the University of Houston, the Islamic Society of Greater Houston has grown from humble beginnings into North America's largest Islamic society. What started as small prayer gatherings in members' homes has evolved into a thriving network of 21 Islamic Centers serving the diverse Muslim communities throughout Houston, TX. ISGH's mission centers on providing religious and social services to all Muslims while fostering meaningful channels of understanding and communication between the Muslim community and the broader Houston community. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit registered in Texas, ISGH operates with a commitment to being a beacon of light that illuminates and serves the city of Houston alongside other faith-based organizations. The society is governed democratically through an elected Board of Directors representing five geographic zones, ensuring that each area of Greater Houston has voice and representation. ISGH's vision extends beyond religious services to encompass educational programs, charitable initiatives, social support, and community engagement that strengthen both the Muslim community and Houston as a whole.
