Founded in 1993 as an outgrowth of the Columbus '92 Commission for the State of Indiana, the Italian Heritage Society of Indiana represents a vibrant community of over six hundred individuals of Italian descent and countless friends who cherish Italian culture and its artistic traditions. What began as a collaborative effort to celebrate the 500th anniversary of Columbus's voyage evolved into a lasting organization with deep roots throughout Indianapolis, IN, dedicated to preserving Italian heritage for future generations. The Society's mission centers on three core goals: promoting and supporting the scholastic endeavors of students with Italian ancestry, expanding civic and educational opportunities for Americans of Italian descent, and fostering appreciation for the art, music, food, and culture of Italian origin within the Indiana community. Since its foundation, the Italian Heritage Society of Indiana has continued to nurture meaningful connections among members through enjoyable activities and opportunities for fellowship, creating a welcoming space where people can celebrate their shared heritage and cultural pride.
