JCC East Bay
Founded in 1978 as the Berkeley-Richmond JCC, we continue to evolve to meet the community’s needs. Serving over 9,000 people each year, the JCC plays an important role as a communal gathering place, celebrating people of all ages, backgrounds, and types of observance. Over the years, the JCC East Bay has absorbed and strengthened vital programs that originated at other local JCCs, including Oakland afterschool and the JCC Maccabi Games®. In 2006, we became the JCC East Bay to reflect our broad geographic reach in Alameda and Contra Costa counties. The Berkeley branch, which is a historic landmark building, is home to an award-winning preschool, vibrant afterschool programs, and spaces for the entire community to come together. We also offer a multiple afterschool programs in Oakland at Joaquin Miller, Hintil Kuu Ca, and Thornhill Elementary Schools. The JCC East Bay stands for equal rights and safety for people of all backgrounds and faiths. We welcome and support our diverse Jewish community, people of all religions, nationalities, and socioeconomic backgrounds, communities of color, people with disabilities, and the LGBTQ+ community. The JCC East Bay creates healthy communities inspired by Jewish values, culture, and tradition. Our vision is to be a geographically accessible home that provides high-quality programs and gathering spaces throughout the East Bay to advance, nurture, and evolve Jewish communal life and contribute to the vitality of the broader community.
