About Jack & Jill of America, Inc. Chester County, PA Chapter

Founded in September 1975 by a visionary group of Black mothers known as "Las Madres" (The Mothers) in Malvern, this organization has grown into the Chester County Chapter of Jack & Jill of America, Inc., now serving the Kennett Square and greater Delaware Valley community with pride and purpose. What began as an intimate gathering of twenty dedicated women with a shared commitment to their children's development has blossomed into a comprehensive community institution. The chapter's founders worked tirelessly during its formative year to establish programs that would benefit not only their own families but the entire Greater Delaware Valley. Today, the Chester County Chapter continues to honor this legacy of maternal dedication and community-centered values by planting seeds of leadership across generations. The organization recognizes that true impact comes through sustained relationships and authentic community engagement rather than isolated initiatives. By maintaining connection to the vision established by Dr. F. DeVida Johnson and the original founders, the chapter ensures that its work in Kennett Square and surrounding areas remains grounded in the values of service, cultural enrichment, and social responsibility. Members and participants benefit from programming that reflects the organization's deep roots in the region and its commitment to uplifting young people through constructive engagement in civic, cultural, educational, and social spheres.
