About Japanese Medical Society of America

The Japanese Medical Society of America was established in 1973, as a nonprofit organization by Japanese medical professionals serving the New York region. Today, our organization consists of members from various fields of healthcare and includes physicians, dentists, nurses, researchers, residents, and students all across the United States. Our main focus is supporting the Japanese and Japanese-American communities through various health related efforts.

One such activity, which has been ongoing since JMSA’s founding, is the scholarship program. This program distributes scholarships to medical/dental/nursing students as well as postdoctoral researchers and medical residents, who demonstrate academic excellence and service to the Japanese community. Since 2007, the JMSA Japanese Community Outreach Program has been serving the various social service groups that serve Japanese residents in the US through grant donations. Members of our group regularly give informational healthcare seminars to the local Japanese community. Since the tragic 3/11 Tohoku Earthquake, JMSA has been supporting the victims through both direct medical support and financial donations. More recently, JMSA has been hosting the annual Life Science Forum in hopes to strengthening the ties amongst the Japanese researchers that are active in the United States. In regards to social events, JMSA hosts the annual dinner, holiday party, and wine and cheese receptions to promote fellowship and collegiality among members and people interested in joining JMSA. Through these various activities, JMSA hopes to serve Japanese and Japanese-Americans residing the in the United States as well as provide a place for fellowship and cooperation among its members.
