About John Kenrick: Great Jewish Entertainers
This class will examine the dazzling careers and fascinating private lives of three beloved Jewish talents from the worlds of theater, opera and cinema who are still celebrated today:
Al Jolson, a Russian Jewish immigrant who conquered vaudeville, Broadway and popular music before popularizing the new art form of sound film.
Beverly Sills, a Brooklyn-born soprano who followed an acclaimed singing career by brilliantly managing New York City Opera and rebuilding Lincoln Center.
Walter Matthau, born into poverty in Manhattan, then rose to fame (and won a Tony) on Broadway and TV before enjoying a long Academy Award-winning career in Hollywood.
