About Kappa Delta, Sigma Mu Chapter
Since its founding at George Washington University in Washington, DC, the Sigma Mu Chapter of Kappa Delta has upheld the motto "Let us strive for that which is Honorable, Beautiful, and Highest." As a chapter of the national Kappa Delta Sorority—established in 1897 with a vision to empower women through friendship and high ideals—Sigma Mu represents over 125 years of tradition, sisterhood, and commitment to building confidence in women. The chapter embodies the foundational values of friendship, loyalty, personal integrity, lifelong learning, and selfless service that continue to guide members in becoming their best selves.
What distinguishes Sigma Mu is its deep-rooted emphasis on sisterhood as a transformative force in members' lives. From Bid Day on the National Mall to graduation and beyond, members form relationships that transcend their college experience and create a support system for life. The chapter accepts women for who they are while challenging them to develop into the individuals they aspire to become. This unique balance of acceptance and encouragement creates an environment where personal authenticity and growth coexist.
Beyond the bonds of friendship, Sigma Mu Chapter is committed to making a tangible difference in the Washington, DC community and globally through philanthropic efforts and community outreach. Members participate in initiatives that support the Kappa Delta Foundation's mission, contributing to scholarships, educational opportunities, and programs that serve those in need. By joining Sigma Mu, women become part of a legacy of confident, engaged leaders who understand that together, we can accomplish more than we ever could alone. The chapter represents a lifetime commitment to honor, beauty, and service in the nation's capital.
