About Kappa Kappa Gamma, Gamma Chi Chapter

Since 1929, Kappa Kappa Gamma's Gamma Chi Chapter has been an integral part of the George Washington University community in Washington, DC, establishing itself as the oldest sorority on campus. Founded by six visionary women in 1920 who sought to expand women's leadership opportunities at GW, the chapter received its official charter in 1929 and has maintained a steadfast commitment to its members ever since. Throughout decades of social and cultural change, including the transformative 1960s and 1970s, Gamma Chi persevered as one of the few Greek organizations that continued to thrive on campus, ultimately becoming the sole surviving sorority from that era. Today, the chapter remains a testament to resilience and dedication, comprising diverse women who support one another in pursuing their individual aspirations while collectively strengthening their sisterhood. The women of Gamma Chi embody values of kindness, spiritedness, and mutual support, creating an inclusive environment where every member feels valued and empowered. Beyond the bonds of sisterhood, members actively contribute to the Washington, DC area through philanthropic work and community service, participating in both chapter-specific initiatives and collaborative efforts across the Greek community. Gamma Chi Chapter represents more than a student organization—it is a legacy of women supporting women, a community rooted in shared values, and a place where individual strengths combine to create meaningful impact. The chapter's continued success reflects the enduring power of sisterhood and the profound connections forged among members who are committed to becoming their best selves individually and collectively.
