About LGBTQ+Allies Lake County
LGBTQ+ Allies Lake County is a grassroots response, to an overwhelming need for resources in every facet of the LGBTQ+ community. Our passion and drive to close this gap is immeasurable. We see the people in our community falling behind because of drugs, violence, and suicide. LGBTQ+ Allies Lake County answers the need for access to support, services, ally education, and resources. Clear visibility and access to those services will make all the difference for people who have been living their lives in secrecy.
LGBTQ+ Allies Lake County is comprised of members of the LGTQ community and allies who live and work in Lake County. Many of our staff and volunteers risk a lot when they speak up and live “out” loud. They have children who may be ridiculed, family members who take umbrage with their choice to speak up. Nevertheless, they continue to make changes in Lake County.
LGBTQ+ Allies Lake County continues to reach out to those who are still in hiding because they are afraid. They are afraid of losing their housing, their children, and their jobs. Currently, there are no nondiscrimination ordinances in Lake County to protect the LGBTQ+ community from being denied services or housing in Lake County, there are misconceptions that there are. The laws that do exist are patchwork and under frequent legal challenge. Worse still, that battle often goes unnoticed. Education and vocal advocacy are the most effective drivers of change. Simple ignorance of the facts cannot be allowed to bloom into discrimination or bigotry. By placing education and support ahead of the debate, we plan to show that a community is healthiest when ALL its members are cared for.
