About Louisville Youth Group
Founded in the late 1980s by dedicated local community members and PFLAG, Louisville Youth Group stands as a testament to the power of grassroots activism and community care. Recognizing the critical need for safe, affirming spaces where LGBTQIA+ youth could develop their identities without judgment, these founders established an organization that has since served thousands of young people throughout Louisville, Kentucky and the broader Kentuckiana region.
At its core, Louisville Youth Group operates from a mission to empower QTBIPoC and LGBTQIA+ youth into healthy, resilient leaders through community connection, life skills education, and social advocacy. The organization embodies core values of being a brave space for courageous growth, remaining youth-centered in all decisions, maintaining a community-minded approach to service and activism, and actively working to dismantle racism within themselves and their community. This values-driven approach creates a transformative environment where young people expand self-awareness, develop new perspectives, increase empathy, and cultivate hope for their futures.
Today, Louisville Youth Group continues its legacy of expansion and deepening impact. The organization recognizes that the need for its services grows every year, driving efforts to design innovative new programs, invest in additional services, expand staffing capacity, and secure new accessible facilities. Supported by a grateful community of donors, volunteers, and partners, Louisville Youth Group remains committed to ensuring its legacy of affirming, empowering youth continues far into the future.
