Since its founding in 1979, the Maryland Vietnamese Mutual Association has been a cornerstone of support for Vietnamese Americans in Silver Spring, Maryland and the broader Washington Metropolitan area. Born from the compassionate efforts of Vietnamese Americans who came together during the refugee resettlement period following the Vietnam War, MVMA embodies a commitment to mutual assistance and community solidarity that spans nearly five decades. The organization's mission centers on building a strong, unified, and caring Vietnamese American community where youths, adults, and elders become engaging and contributing citizens through educational, social, and economic advancement while honoring and maintaining cultural heritage.
