Massachusetts Black Lawyers Association
About Massachusetts Black Lawyers Association
Based in Boston, MA, the Massachusetts Black Lawyers Association stands as a beacon of advocacy and empowerment for attorneys of color, having served the legal community with distinction since March 2, 1973. The MBLA was founded by visionary legal professionals including Clarence E. Dilday, Grover G. Jackson, Solomon B. Watson, and others who recognized the need for a unified voice and support network within Massachusetts's legal profession. The organization is dedicated to fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion while advocating for systemic change to promote justice and equality in communities throughout the region. Through education, mentorship, and collaborative action, the MBLA creates spaces where diverse voices are heard, supported, and celebrated. The association's mission extends beyond professional development to include meaningful community engagement and addressing systemic challenges faced by Black individuals. In 2023, the MBLA celebrated its 50th Anniversary Year, honoring the enduring legacy of its founders and recognizing five decades of transformative impact. Today, under the leadership of President Jameel Moore, the organization continues its theme of "Bridging Legacy and Vision," building strong relationships, reconnecting with its past, investing in future generations, deepening community impact, and growing its membership. The MBLA represents more than an organization—it is a bridge to impactful and lasting change for the Boston legal community and beyond.
