About Medical Society of Eastern Pennsylvania
Founded in 1961, the Medical Society of Eastern Pennsylvania (MSEP) serves as a vital community organization representing the interests and professional aspirations of Black physicians in Philadelphia, PA and the surrounding region. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit affiliate of the National Medical Association, MSEP carries forward a legacy of creating meaningful opportunities for African-American physicians to fully participate in and contribute to the medical profession.
At its core, MSEP is committed to eliminating religious and racial discrimination from medical institutions while nurturing a supportive community for healthcare professionals. The organization recognizes that Black physicians represent less than 6% of the nation's physician workforce, making MSEP's work in advocacy, professional development, and community education essential. Through initiatives like the BlackPhillyMedGradWishlist campaign, MSEP welcomes newly trained physicians to the Greater Philadelphia area, helping to establish lasting professional communities and encouraging talented doctors to make Philadelphia their permanent home.
Beyond professional networking, MSEP actively engages the broader community through public health education, scholarship programs for aspiring medical students, and monthly health awareness broadcasts.
