Metro Trans Umbrella Group
About Metro Trans Umbrella Group
Since its founding shortly after Saint Louis Pride in 2013, Metro Trans Umbrella Group has grown into a vital community organization serving the St. Louis, Missouri area. Born from conversations between founders Sayer Johnson, Alex Johnmeyer, and Rae Larson about the need for greater trans visibility and community presence, MTUG has evolved into a grassroots nonprofit dedicated to lifting up and empowering one another toward equality. The organization recognizes that the St. Louis metro area hosts numerous transgender support, advocacy, and educational groups, yet these scattered resources often leave community members struggling to find the information and connection they need. MTUG exists to unite these efforts and mend the gaps in support by bringing together all individuals who fall under the trans umbrella—including transsexuals, genderqueer, androgynous, agender, intersex, drag, and questioning individuals—alongside their allies. What makes MTUG unique is its commitment to creating not just services, but genuine community and belonging. The organization operates from a foundation of mutual support, where members lift each other up as they work collectively toward a more inclusive and supportive St. Louis. Whether you're already active in another trans organization or seeking your first community connection, MTUG welcomes you. By working together through community building, visibility, advocacy, and education, MTUG demonstrates that collective action creates meaningful change for the entire trans community across the St. Louis region.
