Mexican-American Bar Association of Houston
About Mexican-American Bar Association of Houston
Since 1972, the Mexican-American Bar Association of Houston has been a cornerstone organization dedicated to serving both Hispanic attorneys and the broader Hispanic community throughout Houston and Texas. Born from informal gatherings of Mexican-American attorneys and law students discussing issues unique to Spanish-speaking legal professionals, MABAH evolved into a formal association committed to addressing injustices and legal concerns affecting the Hispanic population. The organization prides itself on its inclusive membership, welcoming licensed attorneys, judges, law school graduates, and current law students from diverse backgrounds including Puerto Rican, Argentinean, Mexican, Cuban, Guatemalan, and non-Hispanic professionals. MABAH's mission centers on elevating professional conduct standards, promoting recognition of Hispanic attorneys' capabilities, and encouraging pro-bono service within the community. Through monthly general meetings, scholarship programs supporting law students at Houston's three law schools, and community legal clinics, MABAH maintains deep roots in the metropolitan Houston area. The organization's commitment to civic engagement extends to leadership development for young people and active participation in judicial screening processes that empower the community voice. As a representative body truly reflective of Houston's diverse Hispanic community, MABAH continues its 50-year tradition of bridging the legal profession and the Hispanic population through education, advocacy, and professional excellence.
